Elk Creek fiddlers convention
Elk Creek Fiddler's Convention is held each year in the beautiful Elk Creek valley of Grayson County, on the 4th weekend in June. This fabulous event provides a sample of the variety of instruments and performers involved in the traditional music genre. The two-day convention has venues which offer the real experience "old time" music in intimate settings.
Blue ridge music center
Established by the U.S. Congress in 1997, with support from The National Council for the Traditional Arts, The Music Center includes an outdoor amphitheater, an indoor interpretive center/theater, and The Roots of American Music, a FREE interactive, and entertaining, exhibition highlighting the historical significance of the region’s music. Trace the history of Blue Ridge Mountain Music through local artists back to the creation of the music generations ago by persons from Europe and West Africa, and shows its' continued influence on many forms of folk, rock, and popular music made across America today.
old FiDDlER'S convention
Before the second weekend in August each year, lovers of country and mountain music leave their homes in time to be in Galax, VA for the Annual Old Fiddler's Convention. For some this means hundreds of miles of travel, while for others it will be a short trip from their nearby homes. Most of these people don't play music, and come just for the listening and renewing old acquaintances.
