REX THEATRE

Every Friday night in the City of Galax, Virginia WBRF 98.1 FM sends out 100,000 watts of live old-time and bluegrass music from the stage of the historic Rex Theater into five states and over the World Wide Web.  Listeners may be in Virginia, North Carolina, West Virginia, Tennessee or as far away as Egypt enjoying the traditional music show from the comfort of their own homes, or they may be sitting back in one of the 475 seats at the Rex.  The show is called Blue Ridge Back Roads and thanks to a faithful group of volunteers, it has become the cornerstone for the revitalization of this 70 year old theater.

When we opened our doors in 1996, we sold books.  Actually, we didn’t just sell books. We read them. We loved them. We discussed them. We shared them.

Chapters Bookshop updates its Indie Bestsellers Lists weekly and offers 10 percent discounts on those top books.  Lists are posted online and in the store.

Book signings are held frequently here at the store. We have hosted notable authors including New York Times Bestselling authors Beth Macy, Mary Kay Andrews and Sharyn McCrumb, among dozens of well-known regional fiction and non-fiction writers.  We receive shipments of books almost daily and feature a stellar used book section.  (You can read more about our Used Book Trade Account policy here.)  We can also search for and special order those hard-to-find titles.

Seasonal Farmer’s Market with items ranging from homegrown produce (tomatoes, green beans, potatoes, corn and more). Home baked goods include cakes, pies, yeast rolls, cookies. Locally grown flowers, hand made crafts. Support local farmers and artists! Open for business Fridays and Saturdays, June through mid-October. Hours: Opens: 8:00 AM Closes: 12:00 PM

Our goal is to bring you the best of our local produce as well as some of the best homemade goods that we can.  Please support us by buying from our local vendors.  If you would like to become a vendor, please just stop by and pick up an application at the Galax Visitors Center, and we’ll get you ready to sell.
